  3. Agents Cho and Rollins watch workers go to work in the usual
  4. routine.  Just in front of the car, a Woman lifts a purse to
  5. her shoulder and crosses the street.
  6.  
  7. REVERSE ANGLE
  8.  
  9. The Woman is Jody.  Wearing sunglasses, business clothes and
  10. with her hair tied up, Jody is indistinguishable from the
  11. suits.  She stumbles in the high heels, regains composure,
  12. and merges into the herd of office workers funneling into
  13. the ominous Parkill building.
  14.  
  15. INT. OUTSIDE JACK'S OFFICE - DAY
  16.  
  17. Jody sits calmly at Diane's desk.  Jack breezes by.
  18.             
  19.                          JACK
  20.             Morning.
  21.                  (disappears into his office)
  22.             
  23.                          JODY
  24.             Mor...
  25.                  (he's gone)
  26.             ...ning.
  27.  
  28. Double take.  Jack pops his head back around the door.

  37.             Oh...Will Diane be back?

  40.                  (shrugs)
  41.             The agency told me I'd be here a day.

  46. He disappears again.

  48.                  (yelling from the office)

  51. Grudgingly, Jody rises to do his bidding.

  54. INT. JOHN'S HOUSE - DAY
  55.  
  56. At the hide-out, Diane sips a cup of coffee while ironing
  57. the wrinkles out of the crumbled copies she sent herself.
  58. The unpacked vase sits in the half empty box of crumpled
  59. paper.
  60.  
  61. The phone RINGS and the answering machine responds.  (It's
  62. counter now indicates 57 messages.)
  63.  
  64.                          JOHN'S VOICE (V.O.)
  65.             I'm sedated, inebriated, or otherwise
  66.             incapacitated.  Please send for help.
  67.  
  68. BEEP.
  69.  
  70.                          CHO (V.O.)
  71.                  (dry)
  72.             John:  Agent Cho again.  You have the
  73.             number.
  74.  
  75. INT. OUTSIDE JACK'S OFFICE - DAY

  77. BEEP goes the multi-line phone console.  Five lines flash.

  80.                  (into phone)
  81.             I'll transfer you now.

  83. She presses a couple buttons, recoils in dread, then
  84. cautiously presses another.

  86.                          JACK (O.S.)
  87.                  (gruff, through intercom)
  88.             Yeah.

  90.                          JODY
  91.                  (into phone)
  92.             It's Eric.
  93.  
  94.                          JACK
  95.             Eric who?

  98.             Ah.

  101.                  (pause; frustrated)

  104. Jody presses a couple buttons and rests the handset on the
  105. phone.  Nothing.  No rings.

  108.                  (yelling from office)
  109.             Did you lose him?!
  110.  
  111. Of course she did.

  114.             No.
  115.                  (beat)
  116.             I think he hung up.
  117.  
  118. She looks at the phone.  None of the lines are flashing.

  121.             They all hung up.

  123. Jack appears at the door.

  141. He dumps a 3-inch stack of reports onto her desk.

  149. INT. JACK'S OFFICE - DAY
  150.  
  151. A clock reads: "1:30."  Jody sits in Jack's deep, leather
  152. chair at his desk.  She re-assembles his phone.
  153.  
  154. She pops a disk out of the computer drive and puts it in her
  155. pocket.
  156.  
  157. In the background, Jack steps into the doorway.  He stops
  158. and silently watches Jody controlling his computer with
  159. remarkable dexterity.
  160.  
  161.                          JACK
  162.                  (calmly)
  163.             What are you doing?
  164.  
  165. Jody starts.  She taps a few keys, then swings around in the
  166. chair, trying to look innocent.  Jack sets down his
  167. briefcase and approaches Jody.  She rises
  168.  
  169.                          JODY
  170.                  (too fast, guilty)
  171.             I was looking to see if you had the
  172.             reports on disk because it would really
  173.             be a waste to time to re-type them...
  174.  
  175.                          JACK
  176.                  (indicates for her to sit)
  177.             That's fine.
  178.                  (beat)
  179.             I bet you could teach me a lot about my
  180.             computer?
  181.  
  182.                          JODY
  183.             Sure.  Anything in particular?
  184.             
  185. Jack crouches next to her and takes control of the mouse.

  188.                  (enthusiastic)

  195.             it's connected to the computer.

  210. The sun breaks over the horizon.

  212. EXT. OUTSIDE PARKILL - STREET - DAY

  214. Ellis walks up to the agency car with a bag of breakfast
  215. burritos.  He leans through the open window to speak with
  216. Cho and Rollins.

  218.                          ELLIS
  219.                  (handing off the bag)
  220.             Any sign of Jack?
  221.  
  222.                          ROLLINS
  223.             He's still up there.

  226. INT. JACK'S OFFICE - EARLY MORNING
  227.  
  228. The computer makes DIALING TONES.
  229.  
  230. A weary Jack Cole sits behind the computer.  Referring to a
  231. scrap of paper, he types in a user name and password.  After
  232. he presses the return key, there is a pause, then, a page
  233. full of text jumps onto the screen.
  234.  
  235.                          JACK
  236.             I'm in!
  237.  
  238. He glides his finger over the screen, reading the text
  239. carefully.
  240.  
  241. ON SCREEN
  242.  
  243. The computer prompts him: "SELECT DIRECTORY: 1) BUDGET
  244. PROJECTIONS, 2) E-MAIL, OR 3) M&A PROPOSALS."
  245.  
  246. JACK presses a selection.
  247.  
  248.                          JACK
  249.             Damn, this is easy!

  252. EXT. OUTSIDE PARKILL - AGENT'S CAR - DAY
  253.  
  254. From the backseat, Ellis watches his partners fight over the
  255. car radio.  Cho tunes it from JAZZ to CLASSIC ROCK.  Rollins
  256. switches the station to TALK then RAP.
  257.  
  258. Cho switches the station to an ALTERNATIVE ROCK station
  259. playing a promo.
  260.  
  261.                          ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
  262.                  (pumped up; pitch distorted)
  263.             At KQEZ, we're giving it away every
  264.             week.
  265.  
  266. THE ROAR OF A REVERING ENGINES RIPS THROUGH THE RADIO PROMO.

  268. When Rollins is about to make another switch, Ellis stops
  269. her hand.

  274. Cho and Rollins sulk like scolded children.

  283. Ellis listens to the radio carefully.  Cho turns up the

  314. Ellis and Cho inspect a framed photograph.

  318. Jody and the DJ pose in front of the hot red Turbo Z.  Jody
  319. has pulled down her baseball cap to obscure her face as the
  320. DJ hands her the keys.

  326. CHO stares at the picture--he's seen this car before.

  344. In the corner, the CEO confers with Jack, who wears
  345. yesterday's suit.

  351.             Straight from the source.

  354.                  (referring to a sheet)
  355.             That's a huge order.

  357. Diane rounds the corner, just arriving to work.

  360.                  (turns to Diane, jovial)
  361.             Good morning, Diane!  Glad to have you

  370.             This one's rock solid.

  372. Just out of listening range, Diane carefully watches the two
  373. executives.

  376.             Alright.  I'll put my clients on it as

  379. CLOSE ON DIANE AT DESK

  381. She dials.

  384.                  (into phone, hushed)

  388. INT. JOHN'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

  390. JODY stands among stacks of boxes, half moved out.

  394.             Great.  I'm done here.  See you soon.

  396. She hangs up and returns to packing when suddenly, AN ALARM
  397. GOES OFF.  The VCR starts to play.
  398.  
  399.             Oh, shit!

  401. EXT. JOHN'S HOUSE - DAY
  402.  
  403. Ellis runs past the triggered sensor in the front window.
  404.  
  405. INT. JOHN'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

  407. Jody panics for a second.  In the background, Jody's face
  408. flashes onto the television and her voice resonates through
  409. the room.
  410.  
  411.                          JODY (V.O.)
  412.                  (on television screen)
  413.             Damn, I just left.
  414.                  (cocky)
  415.             Sorry to have missed you.
  416.  
  417. THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW

  419. Jody sees Rollins stalking, gun raised.
  420.  
  421. BAM!  ELLIS BUSTS through the front door.
  422.  
  423. ROLLINS SMASHES through the patio doors.
  424.  
  425. JODY BOLTS for the hallway.  Rollins and Ellis make chase.

  428. EXT. JOHN'S HOUSE - BACKYARD - DAY
  429.  
  430. JODY crawls out a bedroom window and sprints around the side
  431. of the house.  Cho spots her and follows.

  433. EXT. JOHN'S HOUSE - FRONT - DAY
  434.  
  435. Cho chases Jody through a row of bushes, past a half-packed
  436. U-Haul van, and tackles her against the side of Jody's red,
  437. Turbo Z.

  440.             Nice car.

  444. INT. JOHN'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

  446. Flanked by Ellis and Rollins, Jody sits quietly on the sofa-
  447. -defeated.  Ellis, holding the VCR remote, kicks up his feet
  448. up on the coffee table.  The frozen image of Jody jitters on
  449. the TV screen.

  452.             I love this part.
  453.                  (un-pauses tape with remote)
  454.  
  455. ON THE TV SCREEN

  457.                          JODY (V.O.)
  458.                  (smug)
  459.             As you can see, I won't be needing your
  460.             moving services this time.

  465. ELLIS pauses the tape.

  468.             Funny, but a little over-confident.

  473. Ellis starts the tape again.

  477.             By the fireplace, you'll find the first
  478.             of two installments:...

  480. In the background, Rollins scans a neatly organized stack
  481. documents by the fireplace.

  483.             ...evidence of Jack's dealings with
  484.             fourteen clients of questionable
  485.             reputation.  You and your friends at the
  486.             SEC can fight over them.

  488. JODY brews.  Ellis stops the tape.

  519. The halls of the office are empty and quiet, except for a
  520. TELEVISION in the distance.

  524. Diane stands at her desk, hurriedly collecting her things
  525. while listening to a phone at her ear.

  528.                  (anxious)
  529.             Come on, Jody.

  531. The CEO steps into her doorway.
  532.             
  533.                          SHARON
  534.             Diane!
  535.  
  536. Startled, Diane slams down the phone.
  537.  
  538.             Have a good evening.

  541.                  (recovering)
  542.             Right.  Have a safe flight!
  543.  
  544. Sharon walks off.  Diane continues packing, visibly shaken.
  545.  
  546. Behind her, in Jack's office, a television is on.

  548.                          NEWSCASTER (V.O.)
  549.             ...Trading was light on the New York
  550.             Stock Exchange.  Advances lead declines
  551.             by a margin of 2 to 1.

  553. JACK'S OFFICE - NIGHT
  554.  
  555. In the foreground, a television is tuned to the Business
  556. Channel.  On screen, a NEWSCASTER reports:
  557.  
  558.                          NEWSCASTER
  559.             This afternoon, MiniMart filed for
  560.             bankruptcy under Chapter 11 citing an
  561.             impossible retail market.  Their stock
  562.             tumbled to 16 and a half.
  563.  
  564. The television turns off, revealing the reflection of Jack's
  565. horrified face.
  566.  
  567.                          JACK
  568.                  (dumbfounded)
  569.             It's a dog?!
  570.                  (goes to computer; turns it on)
  571.             No, no, no, no, no.  You were about to
  572.             announce a merger!
  573.  
  574. INT. OUTSIDE JACK'S OFFICE - NIGHT
  575.  
  576. At the door, Diane listens to Jack's agony with trepidation.
  577.  
  578.                          JACK (O.S.)
  579.             SHIT!
  580.  
  581. CRASH!
  582.  
  583.             DAMN IT!
  584.  
  585. THUMP!  The shredder BUZZES to life.
  586.

  588. INT. JACK'S OFFICE - NIGHT

  590. Jack drops the last few pages into the shredder.  In a
  591. panic, he accidentally drops in the cardboard-backed picture
  592. of his family.  He tries to save it but is too slow.  BUZZ!
  593.

  595.                  (to self; pathetic)
  596.             Bye, bye kids.
  597.  
  598. The frantic executive opens his safe and pours money and
  599. documents (list of passwords, secret accounts, Post-It
  600. notes, etc.) into his open briefcase.
  601.  
  602.                          JACK
  603.                  (muttering to self)
  604.             Six-hundred thousand shares at 30...
  605.             
  606. Last, he pulls a gun from the safe and puts it in the
  607. briefcase.
  608.  
  609.             ...down 14 points...that's...six times
  610.             fourteen...
  611.                  (looks to computer; it's not ready)
  612.             ...six times fourteen...24 carry the
  613.             2...
  614.                  (into phone intercom)
  615.             Diane, what's six times fourteen.
  616.  
  617.                          DIANE
  618.                  (over intercom)
  619.             Eight point four million.
  620.  
  621.                          JACK
  622.             Eight million lost in a day!  They're
  623.             gonna kill m...
  624.                  
  625. Jack looks toward the door and thinks for a moment.
  626.  
  627.                  (into intercom)
  628.             Diane, could you come in here.

  630. In a moment, Diane steps through the door.

  633.             Remember that report you gave me, the
  634.             one about MiniMart?
  635.  
  636.                          DIANE

  645. Jack approaches Diane--backing her into a corner.

  651.             What?  Mr. Cole.  I'm just your
  652.             secretary:...

  655.             Who are you working with?

  658.             ...I sort the mail, type your letters,
  659.             fetch the coffee.  What do I know?

  662.             Enough to ruin me.

  664. Jody enters on cue.

  668.             Excuse me, Mr. Cole?

  673. Jack leaves Diane and rushes at Jody.

  677.             You forgot to sign my timecard.

  680.             I did everything as you said.  I cracked
  681.             the computer.  Everything talked about a
  682.             merger, nothing about bankruptcy.  It
  683.             was so easy, but the fucking computer
  684.             lied.

  687.             Mr. Cole, computers don't lie.
  688.  
  689.                          JACK
  690.                  (frenzied, tapping the screen)
  691.             I saw everything; right on my screen!
  692.  
  693. Jody inspects the back of the computer system.  Spotting
  694. something, she goes to the wall and lifts a loose telephone
  695. cord off the floor.
  696.  
  697.                          JODY
  698.             That's funny, your computer isn't
  699.             connected to the telephone line.
  700.             
  701.                          JACK
  702.             That's not funny!
  703.  
  704. Jack raises the gun out of his briefcase and shoots the
  705. computer screen.  It IMPLODES in a brilliant blast of
  706. lights.
  707.  
  708.             That's ridiculous!  I was talking to
  709.             their computer half the night!
  710.                  (to Jody)
  711.             Your terminal program showed me
  712.             everything!
  713.                  (thinks)
  714.             Everything I wanted to see...it was so
  715.             simple...
  716.                  (waves gun at Jody)
  717.             You programmed my computer to show me
  718.             phony information!
  719.  
  720. Diane and Jody exchange looks.  Jody holds her car alarm
  721. remote behind her back.

  724.                  (innocent)
  725.             Clever, huh.

  729. Her hand presses the first button on her car alarm remote.

  733. hidden in a nearby phone closet with other gizmos, begins
  734. dialing phone numbers.

  736. ON JACK'S DESK

  738. The green "SPEAKERPHONE" light turns on.  Then, the
  739. "CONFERENCE" light.

  741. PAN UP TO JACK

  745.             I guess you think this is funny.  Funny
  746.             tricks on the boss.  Clever games that
  747.             cost THIS COMPANY and ITS CLIENTS
  748.             MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!

  750. Jack waves the gun at them.

  753.             The Sharon's gonna be pissed.

  755. INT. LIMOUSINE - NIGHT

  757. RING!  The CEO reaches across the luxurious compartment to a
  758. cellular phone.  He answers.

  761.             Hello?

  763.                          JACK (O.S.)
  764.             That ol' windbag will pass a stone when
  765.             she discovers I've sunk this company and
  766.             half her personal clients.

  771. EXT. LIMOUSINE ON STREET - NIGHT

  774.             Turn this boat around!

  776. The limo pulls a sharp U-turn at 55 mph.

  780. Jack packs a few more things into his briefcase while
  781. holding them under the gun.

  800. A stocky, well-dressed MAN, only his torso visible, listens
  801. to the phone.  Off-screen, his family chatters in Spanish.

  807. INT. JACK'S OFFICE - NIGHT

  810.             They killed Clay?

  814. A MAN in elegant golden pajamas listens to the answering
  815. machine above a parquet-wood floor.
